Mercury Range Cooker History

Mercury has moved through several ownership stages while remaining a distinctive premium range-cooker name. Earlier domestic Mercury cookers were developed under Lincat. In 2009 AGA Rangemaster acquired the Mercury domestic range-cooker business and principal assets. AGA Rangemaster later became part of Middleby's residential kitchen portfolio.

2000 — Mercury launched under LincatContemporary industry reporting on the later sale quoted Lincat as saying the Mercury domestic range-cooker business had been launched by the group in 2000.
2009 — AGA Rangemaster acquires MercuryAGA Rangemaster bought the Mercury Appliances domestic range-cooker business and principal assets from Lincat. Older Lincat-era machines can differ substantially from later AGA Rangemaster-built Mercury cookers.
2015 — Middleby acquires AGA Rangemaster GroupMiddleby completed its acquisition of AGA Rangemaster Group, bringing Mercury into a wider premium residential-kitchen portfolio.
2026 — new residential-kitchen ownership structureMiddleby completed the sale of a 51% stake in its Residential Kitchen business to 26North. Middleby retained a 49% non-controlling interest in the new joint venture. AGA Rangemaster is part of that residential-kitchen business.

Mercury ownership & related brands

Where Mercury Sits Today

Mercury is part of the AGA Rangemaster family. AGA Rangemaster's current brand information places Mercury alongside AGA, Rangemaster and Falcon, with Rayburn also within the wider group. These are related brands rather than interchangeable products, and parts should always be identified from the exact model and serial number.

Mercury

Current premium range-cooker line with 1000, 1082 and 1200 sizes in dual-fuel and induction formats.

AGA

Part of the same wider AGA Rangemaster residential-kitchen family. The AGA Masterchef Deluxe is a current conventional range-cooker line in 90 cm and 110 cm widths.

Rangemaster

AGA Rangemaster's principal range-cooker brand and the current route used for many Mercury spares and support references.

Falcon

A related AGA Rangemaster range-cooker brand. Product construction and components can overlap by platform, but compatibility must never be assumed.

Current group information: AGA Rangemaster — Our Brands. A Brassett Ltd is independent of these manufacturers and brand owners.

Current Mercury range & replacement planning

Current Mercury 1000, 1082 & 1200 — Replacing an Older Cooker

The present Mercury family remains the 1000, 1082 and 1200, with dual-fuel and induction versions. They can be considered when an older Mercury is beyond economical repair, but they are not automatic like-for-like replacements for RC1090, RC1100 or Thermastone-era appliances.

Mercury 1000

Current 100 cm-class Mercury; official specification lists a 990 mm width.

  • Dual-fuel or induction
  • Two electric ovens
  • Separate grill
  • Check old opening width and service positions
Mercury 1082

Distinctive 1082 mm-wide current Mercury format.

  • Dual-fuel or induction
  • Multifunction and fanned ovens
  • Separate grill
  • Often the first current size to compare with older 1080/1090-class installations
Mercury 1200

The largest current Mercury range, approximately 1190 mm wide.

  • Dual-fuel or induction
  • Two electric ovens
  • Separate grill
  • Suitable only where the kitchen opening and services match

Before replacing an old Mercury

Measure the actual cooker width, depth and height, check worktop and plinth clearances, cooker-hood spacing, electrical supply, gas connection if applicable, and the position of services behind the appliance. A newer Mercury, AGA Masterchef Deluxe or Rangemaster may be worth comparing, but none should be treated as a direct replacement without checking the installation.

Current Mercury product family and related AGA Rangemaster brand information are based on current AGA/AGA Rangemaster product pages. Exact specifications can change by production revision.

Important for older Mercury owners

Many Older Mercury Parts Are Now Obsolete

This is particularly important with earlier Lincat-era Mercury range cookers. Genuine parts for some older models are no longer produced or routinely supplied, and parts catalogues show numerous older Mercury components as obsolete or no longer available.

RC1090, RC1100 and Thermastone-era cookers can be difficult. Certain switches, grill components, burner parts, hinges, cosmetic controls and model-specific components may no longer be available through normal channels. Rangemaster's current service information also lists Mercury Thermastone and RC1090 products as exclusions from its fixed-price service.

This does not automatically mean the cooker is beyond repair. Depending on the failed component, remaining genuine stock, compatible alternatives, reclaimed stock or specialist replacements may sometimes exist.

Please send the full model, serial number, a clear rating-plate photo and fault details before booking an older Mercury. A Brassett Ltd cannot guarantee an older Mercury repair until the failed component has been identified and availability checked.

Smart Mercury fault guidance

Mercury Range Cooker Fault Checker

Choose the closest symptom. This is guidance for describing the fault, not a diagnosis. For older Mercury cookers, model and serial information is critical because components can differ and some are obsolete.

Common Mercury Range Cooker Faults

Electrical oven, grill, induction, door, control and timer faults are common repair enquiries. If a cooker repeatedly trips the electrics, overheats uncontrollably, sparks internally or gives a burning smell, stop using it until checked.

Oven not heating

If the display or fan works but there is no heat, possible causes include an element, selector, thermostat/sensor, relay, wiring or control component. Model and serial details are essential before parts are ordered.

Fan oven runs but does not heat

A fan oven that circulates air but produces no heat may have an element or electrical-control fault. Older Mercury element availability can vary by model.

One oven cavity not working

Mercury range cookers use separate oven cavities and controls. Tell us whether the left or right oven is affected and which functions still work.

Grill not heating

A failed grill element, selector, wiring or control can cause no or partial heat. On older Mercury models, some original grill components may now be obsolete.

Oven overheating

Stop using the affected cavity if temperatures appear uncontrolled. A thermostat, sensor, selector or electronic control fault may need investigation.

Oven not reaching temperature

Slow warm-up or low temperature can involve heating elements, door sealing, sensing or control faults. Note the cooking mode and approximate temperature behaviour.

Oven fan noisy

Rattling, scraping or grinding can indicate a worn fan motor, blade contact or mounting issue. Stop use if the noise becomes severe.

Cooling fan keeps running

Extended cooling-fan operation can be normal after cooking, but continuous running may point to a temperature-sensing or control issue.

Door will not close properly

Worn hinges, hinge receivers, catches or distorted seals can prevent correct closure. Older Mercury hinge and door parts need checking by exact model.

Door seal damaged

A damaged seal can cause heat loss and uneven cooking. Send clear photos because seal profiles and lengths vary between Mercury generations.

Clock or timer fault

If the oven will not operate after a power cut or the timer is blank, flashing or unresponsive, note the exact display behaviour and model.

Control knob or selector fault

Loose, cracked or non-responsive controls can involve the knob, spindle, switch or selector behind it. Some older cosmetic/control parts are difficult to source.

Cooker trips electrics

Stop repeated resetting and isolate the appliance safely. Elements, wiring, motors, induction electronics or other components may have an insulation fault.

Induction zone not working

Current Mercury induction models use a five-zone induction hob. Note which zone fails, any error code and whether other zones operate.

Induction error or power fault

Induction faults can involve power modules, cooling, sensors or supply conditions. Send the exact code plus the full model and serial number.

Ignition clicking or electrical ignition fault

On dual-fuel models, electrical ignition faults can be discussed, but A Brassett Ltd does not repair gas leaks or gas-supply faults.

Old Mercury part unavailable

For RC1090, RC1100, Thermastone-era and other older Mercury cookers, some genuine parts are obsolete. We will need the exact model, serial number and part/fault details before confirming whether a repair is viable.

Other Mercury fault

Send the complete model and serial number, approximate age, fuel type, which oven/hob section is affected, the exact symptoms, full postcode and clear photos.

Before You Book a Mercury Cooker Repair

Please send the full model and serial number, approximate age, fuel type and a clear description of the fault. For an older Mercury, add a rating-plate photo and, where safe, a photo of the failed component or control. This helps us check whether the likely parts are still obtainable before an engineer travels.

Frequently asked questions

Mercury Range Cooker Repair FAQs

Useful answers about Mercury models, older parts, current replacement options, ownership history and our Bromley-centred service area.

Do you repair Mercury range cookers?

Yes. A Brassett Ltd accepts selected Mercury range cooker repair enquiries for current and older models, subject to the exact fault, appliance condition, access, engineer route and parts availability.

How far does your Mercury cooker repair service cover from Bromley?

Our route network covers Bromley, London and a broad South East area extending roughly 100 miles from Bromley. Individual postcodes are subject to engineer route and booking availability.

Which Mercury models do you cover?

Enquiries are welcome for current Mercury 1000, 1082 and 1200 models and older Mercury ranges including RC1090, RC1100 and Thermastone-era appliances, although older parts availability must be checked.

What are the current replacements for older Mercury range cookers?

The current Mercury family includes the 1000, 1082 and 1200 in dual-fuel and induction versions. These are not automatic like-for-like replacements for older Mercury models, so width, depth, services, ventilation and electrical or gas requirements must be checked.

Who took over the Mercury cooker brand?

Mercury began under Lincat. AGA Rangemaster acquired the Mercury domestic range-cooker business in 2009. Middleby acquired AGA Rangemaster Group in 2015. In February 2026 Middleby completed the sale of a 51% stake in its Residential Kitchen business to 26North, retaining a 49% non-controlling interest.

Which brands are now related to Mercury?

Mercury sits within the AGA Rangemaster family alongside brands including AGA, Rangemaster and Falcon, with Rayburn also within the wider group. These brands are related but their parts and appliances are not automatically interchangeable.

Are many old Mercury cooker parts obsolete?

Yes. A significant number of genuine parts for older Mercury cookers are obsolete or no longer routinely supplied. RC1090 and Thermastone-era machines need especially careful parts checks.

Can an obsolete Mercury part sometimes be replaced?

Sometimes. Remaining genuine stock, compatible alternatives, reclaimed stock or specialist replacements may exist, but compatibility cannot be promised until the failed component and exact model have been identified.

Do you repair gas leaks on Mercury dual-fuel cookers?

No. A Brassett Ltd does not repair gas leaks or gas-supply faults. Electrical oven, control and ignition-related enquiries can be discussed where they fall within our repair scope.

What engineer visit windows do you offer?
